ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ: ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਦੀ ਸਿਟੀ ਕੌਂਸਲ ‘ਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੀ ਔਰਤ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕੌਰ ਔਜਲਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ‘ਤੇ ਸਟਰੀਟ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰੱਖਣ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਮਤਾ ਸਰਬਸੰਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਇਹ ਮਤਾ ਮਾਰਟਿਨ ਮੇਦੇਰੁਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਮਤੇ ਦੀ ਤਾਈਦ ਰੀਜਨਲ ਕਾਊਂਸਲਰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
The motion directs staff to examine the possibility of renaming a future street in wards 3 & 4 in honour of the former Cllr, acknowledging her impact as the 1st person of #SouthAsian descent elected to city council & her continued support for both women & workers rights.

ਦੱਸਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕੌਰ ਔਜਲਾ ਸਾਊਥ ਏਸ਼ੀਅਨ ਮੂਲ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਔਰਤ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ 2000 ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ 2003 ਤੱਕ ਵਾਰਡ ਨੰ 4 ਦੀ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਗੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਸਟਰੀਟ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਤਰੀਕ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਦੀ ਅਗਲੀ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੈਅ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ।
